Police cited a 17-year-old Norwalk man on minor drug charges last Monday morning after stopping him for speeding on Old Stamford Road.
At about 10:37 a.m. on Nov. 30, police clocked the motorist traveling 51 mph in a 30 mph zone near the intersection at Gower Road, according to a police report.
An officer stopped the car, which had New York state license plates, near Park Street and on approaching and speaking to the motorist, detected the odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle, the report said.
The department’s K-9 unit was called for and the drug-sniffing dog, Apollo, turned up marijuana in the center console of the car, as well as a jar marked ‘WEED’ on blue masking tape inside the driver’s side door, the report said. Inside the jars were two clear sandwich bags with pot inside, and in the ashtray of the car were several burnt marijuana cigarettes, the report said.
Police withheld the Norwalk teen’s name because of his age.
He was issued infraction summonses for speeding, operating a motor vehicle without a license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana. His case was referred to the Juvenile Matters Division at state Superior Court in Stamford, where he is scheduled to appear Dec. 9.
