New Canaan police late Tuesday morning began investigating an attempted burglary at an office building on Elm Street.

It isn’t clear just when the attempted break-in at 191 Elm St. occurred, since the heavy door around back of the building last had been checked about one month ago, according to Sgt. Peter Condos.

Someone clearly tried to pry open the steel door at the office building that houses Laverack Capital Partners LLC. Representatives from the company said it isn’t clear why someone would break into the space, as there’s no merchandise or anything of real value, Condos said.

According to Condos, nearby towns—Bedford and Mt. Kisco, N.Y., for example—have been “plagued with commercial burglaries,” so the department wasn’t completely surprised to hear about the attempt. New Canaan police will coordinate with other departments, he said.
