Police arrested a Stamford teen on Friday afternoon following a high speed chase that ended when the vehicle the juvenile was driving crashed into a utility pole near Saxe Middle School.

Two other male occupants in the car had fled on foot in the area of Lakeview Avenue and were not found, according to a police report.

At about 4:43 p.m., an officer tried to stop a car on Millport Avenue that had a defective brake light, the report said.

As the officer approached on foot, the vehicle sped off up Lakeview Avenue and turned into the parking lot of a condominium complex, according to the report.

The 15-year-old driver stayed in the car but two juveniles fled on foot behind the condo units, the report said.

The officer stopped at the entrance to the complex and tried to make contact with the driver, it said. But the vehicle pulled away, nearly striking the officer and when he got back into the patrol car, crashed into the front of it and then pulled back onto Lakeview Avenue, racing to the top and turning right onto Main Street, the report said.

There, the driver once again crashed into the pursuing patrol unit, it said.

Police followed the car onto Farm Road and into the parking lot at the middle school, where the teenage motorist crashed into a utility pole on the grass near the rear of Saxe Middle School, the report said.

A pursuing patrol car struck the driver’s side of the suspect’s car after it had hit the pole, it said.

The motorist, a Stamford resident, was ordered detained for engaging an officer in a pursuit, reckless driving, interfering, criminal attempt for assault on an officer, criminal trover, operating a motor vehicle without a license and defective brake light.

A K-9 unit from Darien Police tried to help find the other two occupants of the car but they were not located, police said.

Police withheld the name of the arrested teen because of his age.
