Police Chief: Fatal Gunshot Wound Victim Identified, Likely a Suicide

The New Canaan Police Department chief confirmed Wednesday that the fatal gunshot victim on North Wilton Road on Tuesday was a 41-year-old Queens, N.Y. woman and that she died of an apparent suicide.

According to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, Heather Sturtz of Briarwood had been armed with a handgun and threatening suicide on the property of a private residence at 721 North Wilton Road.

“Arriving officers located Sturtz and found that the she had a single gunshot wound. Sturtz was treated at the scene but did not survive,” Krolikowski said. “Further investigation determined that this incident is a suicide. However, this finding is contingent on receiving a report from the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.”
