At about 2:29 p.m. on July 16, as throngs of bargain-hunters flooded downtown New Canaan for the annual Sidewalk Sales, officers were dispatched to the Park Street store after word reached them that an employee was chasing someone who had stolen the Bluetooth device, according to a police report.

Police got a description of the thief and then spotted him in the area, the report said.

Officers chased the teen on foot and caught up to him at Cherry Street, it said.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trover and interfering with an officer.

Police released the teen on $1,000 bond and scheduled him to appear July 26 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
