Police on Monday afternoon arrested a 22-year-old New Jersey man who lied to an officer at New Canaan High School after entering the school’s cafeteria from an exterior door.
The school resource officer at NCHS spotted the man—identified as Tyler J. Moroch of West Windsor, N.J.— around 12:15 p.m. on May 1 as he attempted to enter the cafeteria, according to a police report.
When approached by the SRO, Moroch said he was 17 years old and had just transferred to NCHS, the report said.
A subsequent investigation revealed the man’s true identity, it said.
A former NCHS student, Moroch could not provide a valid reason or honest explanation for why he was on school grounds, police said.
They charged him with interfering with an officer and loitering on school grounds, both misdemeanor offenses.
He was released on $5,000 bond, scheduled to appear May 15 in state Superior Court in Norwalk and advised to avoid New Canaan public school property.
