The owner of a popular café on Elm Street is planning to open a coffee stand inside the New Canaan Train Station.
Andrea Lombardi, owner-operator of Dolce, an Italian-style café, said that if all goes forward as planned, he’ll be serving coffee and pastry out of the designated area at the train station in a few months.
“I like new opportunities, it’s always fun,” Lombardi told NewCanaanite.com when asked about his plans.
“Whatever the customers want., whatever they ask for, I am going to bring it in for them,” he said.
The last operator of the train station coffee and newsstand, Gerald Carney, had a permit for 2019 but not this year, health records show.
Lombardi on Wednesday went on a walk-through of the space with a sanitarian from the New Canaan Health Department.
According to notes from the sanitarian’s report, Lombardi is to submit a plan to the town with the proposed location of a counter and equipment. Work to be done includes replacing carpet and a backsplash, and patching and repainting walls, the report said.
An Italy native who moved to the United States as a teenager, Lombardi opened Dolce last summer. Asked how things are going there, he said, “So far, so good.
if you’ve never had a Dolce hot chocolate, I feel sorry for you! So, so good!
