Police before dawn Wednesday arrested an 18-year-old New Canaan man after responding to a commercial burglar alarm at Acme on Elm Street.

At about 2:47 a.m. on Jan. 1, a burglar alarm was activated at the roll-up door by the loading dock out back of the grocery store at 288 Elm St., according to a police report.

There, arriving officers spotted four males holding items in their hands, the report said. On seeing the police, they ran away, it said.

Officers located three of them as they ran down Grove Street toward the New Canaan Racquet Club and Metro-North Railroad train tracks, police said. Ultimately, the 18-year-old—a Bennington Place resident—was apprehended after a brief chase, the report said.

The other males were not apprehended, though they’ve been identified and additional arrests are expected, it said.

Police charged the teen with third-degree burglary, interfering with an officer and trespass of railroad property.

As the police investigation is active, no specifics about what was stolen will be released yet, officials said.

The teen was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 15 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
