The New Canaan Pride 9u won their sixth and seventh consecutive games of the spring travel baseball season with Sunday’s doubleheader sweep over the Yorkville (NYC) Eagles at Mellick Field.

In Game One, the Pride scored more runs than they would need in the top of the 1st inning, as Nick Burns reached first after being hit by a pitch and stole second. Ian Wearing ripped a single to RF to score Burns for the game’s first run. After Daniel Rogers walked, Eoin Mueller plated Wearing with an RBI single, giving New Canaan a 2-0 lead.
Giovanni Cascione drove a triple to the Mellick Field fence to drive in 2, extending New Canaan’s lead to 4-0. Cooper Dinan followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0 New Canaan.
Yorkville would answer with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st, but the Pride tacked on 5 more runs in the 3rd inning to open up the game.
Dinan led off with a single, then stole 2nd and 3rd. Luke Hickey drew a walk in front of Trey Hartnett, who drove in Dinan with a sharp single down the LF line, giving New Canaan a 6-2 lead. Jack Marshall lifted a single down the RF line, driving in Hickey and Hartnett, making it 8-2 Pride. Burns then hit a booming double to LCF to score Marshall, then came in to score on Wearing’s RBI single. When the smoke finally cleared it was 10-2 New Canaan.

The Pride added a run in the 4th as Dinan drove in Holden Busby with a single, and another run in the 5th when John Totaro’s RBI double capped the New Canaan scoring at 12.
Meanwhile, the Pride received outstanding pitching as the tandem of Wearing and Burns surrendered only three hits while striking out 6 Yorkville hitters en route to the 12-2 win.

New Canaan jumped out to another quick lead in Game 2, as Cascione drove in Rogers for the game’s first run with an RBI single to CF. Busby then plated Mueller with a solid single to RF to make it 2-0 New Canaan after 1.
The Pride added two more runs in the 2nd inning, before giving up 6 runs in the top of the 3rd to fall behind 6-4. New Canaan would answer in the bottom of the 3rd, as RBI hits from Mueller, Busby and Hartnett led to 5 Pride runs and a 9-6 advantage.

Yorkville evened the score with 3 runs in the top of the 4th. Daniel Rogers’ spectacular double play prevented further damage and set New Canaan up in the bottom of the inning. Sure enough, the Pride would respond again as Mueller put New Canaan up for good with an RBI single. Cascione added 2 insurance runs with a base hit, giving the Pride a 12-9 lead that stood up as the final score.
