Police last week arrested a 23-year-old New Canaan man on drunk driving and other charges after he fled authorities at the scene of a car crash downtown.
At about 4:47 p.m. on Oct. 5, officers were dispatched to the area of Park and Cherry Streets on a report of a 2-car crash, according to a police report.
There, police smelled alcohol on the breath of one of the drivers, identified as the Snowberry Lane man later arrested, the report said.
While they were on scene, he drove away and officers pursued him into nearby Mead Park, it said.
He failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a urine test whose results are not yet known, police said.
He was charged with driving under the influence, second-degree threatening (from a prior case) and evading responsibility as well as cited for failure to bring a motor vehicle to a full stop and improper passing.
He was released on $500 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 14 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
