New Canaan Juvenile Arrested for Shoplifting in Darien

A New Canaan juvenile was arrested in Darien last week after shoplifting from a girls’ retail store just off the Post Road.

At about 3:03 p.m. on July 3, an employee at Kirby Girl told police someone had committed larceny, according to a police report.

With a description of the individual seen in the shop, police found the suspect nearby on the Post Road, the report said.

The suspect admitted to taking items without paying for them when questioned, it said. Police found the items in a bag that the juvenile was carrying.

Employees at the store said that the suspect had been seen placing items in an open-top bag and that, when approached, the juvenile bag to speak to someone on an iPhone and walked out the door, the report said.

The total value of what was taken was about $340, it said.

The owner of the store told police that a separate theft had taken place June 26, and that surveillance video showed what appeared to be the same suspect concealing items in a bag. The items and their value isn’t known.

The New Canaan juvenile was transported to Darien Police headquarters and charged with sixth-degree larceny. A parent was contacted and the juvenile was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford.
