New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski is urging residents to be aware of a new scam where an individual claiming to be from Microsoft phones a home, claiming to be fixing a computer infected with a virus.

A New Canaan resident already has been attempted in this scam, during which the caller hopes to gain remote access to the computer itself.

A man with an Indian accent phoned a New Canaan home shortly before 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Krolikowski said.

The Better Business Bureau last summer reported on a similar scam.
