With Gifts of Gold and Incense Sweet: Music for a King – Christmas Concert First Presbyterian Church
Sunday, December, 18, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
FreeOn Sunday, December 18 at 4pm, come join the First Presbyterian Choir, Carol Choir and English Handbell Choir at their annual Christmas Concert, “With Gifts of Gold and Incense Sweet: Music for a King”, directed by the new Director of Music, Victoria Shields. Take time to ponder the mystery of the birth of the Christ Child in this busy season. The concert weaves together themes of preparation, light, life and hope for the one who reveals God’s dream for this world. The program features music by Stephen Paulus, including his exquisite Three Nativity Carols, which contain fresh settings of the traditional and 15th century carols The Holly and the Ivy, This Endris Night and Wonder Tidings. Other pieces on the program include music by Dale Warland, Boris Ord, Paul Manz, Irish composer David Mooney, Aaron David Miller and the U.S. premiere of two carols written in Finland by composer Alex Freeman. These works will be accompanied by harp, flute and oboe. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Syrian refugee family that First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan and First Presbyterian Church of Stamford are co-sponsoring, as well as for the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PCUSA) relief work efforts in Syria. Come join us as we celebrate the light of the world!
