SUFFRAGETTE Movie Special Screening at Library with League of Women Voters

Monday, April, 18, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

If this unexpectedly turbulent campaign season won’t prompt apathetic voters to rethink their complacency, what will? Come see Suffragette, starring Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan, and never take voting for granted again. SUFFRAGETTE tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with an increasingly brutal State. There will be a light reception at 6:00pm and the screening will begin at 6:30pm. This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and New Canaan Library and is free and open to the public.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. LWVNC initiatives helped to change the structure of Town government from a town meeting to a town council. We advocated strongly for periodic charter review. We raised community support for the building of the New Canaan High School and the more recent renovation project. We advocated for accessory housing regulations for our elderly and improved recreational facilities. We have conducted town-wide surveys on Town Recreation Facilities, Open Space Conservation, and Adolescent Sleep Needs and School Start Times. We have held town forums on energy, technology in education, and sponsor candidates’ debates. For more information on the New Canaan LWV, go to www.lwvnewcanaan.org.
