Reception for “Continuum” A Collagraph Prints Exhibition by Cynthia MacCollum
Saturday, August, 23, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
FREEAn artist skilled in multiple mediums and disciplines, New Canaan resident Cynthia MacCollum presents “Continuum,” a visually striking and compelling exhibition of collagraph prints that speak eloquently of our awe-inspiring planet. The show opens at New Canaan Library’s H. Pelham Curtis Gallery on Saturday, August 23, and runs through October 5, 2014. An opening reception will be held on Saturday the 23rd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. All are invited to attend. The New Canaan Library Art Committee and the artist wish to thank Moet Hennessy who will generously be providing Ruinart Champagne for the reception.
Ms. MacCollum’s considerable talent is obvious in the beauty of her work.Continuum offers a gorgeous, pictorial exploration of life -and the history of life – on our planet. Continuum is also an artistic timeline, illustrating how humankind’s presence on the Earth is actually only a blip on the evolutionary scale. The timeline, inspired by the artist’s children and their many social studies timeline projects over the years, balances physically and visually the macro scale of time against the micro scale of imagery. Her deft handling of collagraph printmaking yields captivating results of beautiful organic life forms. Amid the beauty, there is nevertheless a hint of darkness: the threat humankind poses to itself and to all existence.
