New Canaan Library Offers a Tree Identification Walk, led by Naturalist Katherine Wagner-Reiss

FreeConnecticut has an abundance of trees of all species, but most of us are unaware of the names and classifications. Join naturalist Katherine Wagner-Reiss on Thursday, September 14 at 6 p.m. as she leads a group on an informative and fun Tree Identification walk. The tour will require participants to be standing and walking for a full hour, and is is recommended for those 12 years of age or older.
Participants will meet in the Curtis Gallery promptly at 6 p.m. to allow for the hour walk before sunset. Participants are limited to 25; please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.
Ms. Wagner-Reiss will share easy ways to recognize the various types of trees that are planted on South Avenue, and common to the area. She will also discuss local history in relation to the trees, such as which tree seeds were used as a coffee substitute during the Civil War. Katherine Wagner-Reiss holds a Certificate in Botany from the New York Botanical Garden, and has led numerous nature the tours. She is a long-time resident of New Canaan.
