New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan Present Necessary Conversations: A Series on Topics Related to Aging
Wednesday, January, 10, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeIn a collaborative effort, New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan present a three part series entitled Necessary Conversations, which will address issues related to adult children and their aging parents. The first discussion, Safety First: Keeping Mom or Dad Safe Behind the Wheel, takes place on Wednesday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org. Subsequent discussions will be held on Wednesday, January 24 and Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m.
While it can be challenging to broach this subject, there are positive ways to approach the issue of keeping aging parents safe – and safely – behind the wheel. A panel of professionals will look at the many aspects to consider, including resistance to losing independence, safety on the road and the practicality of getting around, as well as suggestions on facilitating the discussion. Alternative resources, such as Staying Put, grocery delivery, Uber and Meals on Wheels will also be discussed. The panel will be moderated by Kathy Collins, Director of Member Resources, Staying Put in New Canaan, and will include discussions about accident prevention by Leon Krowlikowski, Chief of New Canaan Police Department, assessing driver capability by Craig Olin, MD, Stamford Health Medical Group, and insurance issues by Tim Brown of Brown Thayer Shedd Insurance.
