New Canaan Library presents an opportunity to learn how to play the guitar from accomplished jazz guitarist Michael-Louis Smith. The workshop takes place on Saturday, December 16 at 3 p.m. in the Plaut Room. Due to the nature of the event, participation is limited. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.
The unique workshop will give the beginner the tools to start learning how to play the guitar, and the existing player a fresh approach. The workshop will begin with learning the music alphabet, identifying the names of notes of the open strings, and will continue on to explore the fret board through its various positions.
Michael-Louis Smith is a jazz guitarist, composer, recording artist and educator. He received a Masters in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. Originally from Saratoga, NY, he now lives in New Canaan and performs regularly at clubs in New York and at festivals throughout the region.
