The 2018 Sakura Matsuri, or Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival, will be held on Sunday, May 6, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Mead Park in New Canaan.
The event will feature traditional Japanese a folk dance, taiko drumming by UConn Taiko, the story of Hachiko (a loyal Akita dog) and Spartacus (an American Akita therapy dog with K9 First Responders). Hands-on activities include dressing in traditional kimonos, ikebana flower arranging for kids, origami (paper folding), fabric wrapping, and calligraphy.
