Cakes for Cares: This Sunday

New Canaan Cares presents a new family fun event, Cakes for Cares, this Sunday April 19th 2- 4pm at Waveny House. Come enjoy the whimsical cakes on display, get creative at the cupcake bar, bid in the silent auction of commercial cakes and be inspired by a live cake demonstration by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson. Alan Richardson and Karen Tack are the best-selling authors of Hello, Cupcake!, What’s New, Cupcake?, and Cupcakes, Cookies & Pie, Oh, My!, the cookbooks that have created a revolution in at home baking. Richardson and Tack make baking accessible to all by using simple ingredients and no special equipment to create their witty, one-of-a-kind, imaginative cupcake designs.

This community event will appeal to all ages and showcase cakes from local businesses as well as a wide range of New Canaan’s resident bakers. Some of these businesses will include Verizon, the Candy Scoop, Consider the Cook and Gingerbitz. There will be awards in every age group, and every contest category such as best use of color, craziest cake, and best sports cake. For business entrants there will be a special category, “Local Flavor” which awards New Canaan’s finest cake creation. All proceeds from this event will directly fund Youth Leadership Programs. There will be no charge at the door for this event and all are encourage to come out with family and friends and be inspired by our local talent and enthusiasm.
