Baroque Christmas Concert at First Presbyterian Church
Sunday, December, 20, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
FreeThe First Presbyterian Church Choir, under the direction of Arthur Sjogren, will present a Christmas concert on Sunday, December 20th at 5pm. The choir will be accompanied by a full Baroque orchestra. The two featured works are both Magnificats by the German composer Dietrich Buxtehude and the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. Buxtehude is a middle Baroque composer who was the teacher of J.S.Bach. Zelenka is a late Baroque composer, originally from Prague, who was a contemporary of J.S.Bach.
In addition to these two Magnificats, the concert features Five Australian Christmas Carols by William James accompanied by string orchestra, as well as a motet by the Polish composer Damion for clarini trumpet and soprano. The audience will also be invited to sing Christmas carols with the full orchestra. It promises to be an exciting way to celebrate the Christmas season.
The concert is free with a donation accepted at intermission to benefit First Presbyterian’s Outreach Ministries. A reception will follow, to which all are invited. First Presbyterian Church is located at 178 Oenoke Ridge Road in New Canaan. For more information, call the church office at (203) 966-0002.
