Locals on Friday night, Sept. 6, can avail themselves of 11-cent ice cream scoops at Baskin Robbins on Main Street, thanks to the generosity of Steve and Jennifer Czech.

They’re the parents of Mike Czech, a New Canaan boy who died in 2008 at age 11 following complications from an aggressive, incurable type of brain tumor that affects children.

An annual tradition in New Canaan to honor Mikey’s memory (he was deeply loved in town), the promotion starts at 6 p.m. and doubles as a fundraiser for the Mikey Czech Foundation, and patrons are encouraged to donate their change or extra dollars to the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to increasing awareness of and research into finding a cure for pediatric brain tumors, specifically Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas.

There will be buckets at Baskin Robbins for those who wish to donate, so please consider doing so as you enjoy your ice cream, courtesy of the Czechs.
