Police on Friday night arrested a 20-year-old New Canaan man after he locked himself in a Millport Avenue apartment and refused to release two occupants of the dwelling.

At about 9:15 p.m. on April 10, officers were dispatched to the apartment on a report of a domestic dispute involving the man and other occupants of the residence, police said.

A member of the New Canaan Police Hostage Negotiation unit responded as well as members of the department’s Special Response Team, according to a police report.

There, the man eventually surrendered without further incident and the two occupants being held were released, the report said.

The man was charged with risk of injury to a child, second-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, violating a protective order, first-degree criminal trespass, first-degree unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct.

Police withheld further details, classifying the matter as a domestic incident.

The man was held on $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

His criminal history is extensive.

He had been arrested for felony assault earlier this year where the victim, described as an “acquaintance,” suffered a broken nose, lacerations on his face and a jaw injury.

According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he also had been arrested by New Canaan Police in November 2018 and charged with second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and second-degree violation of conditions of release (he pleaded not guilty in those active cases). Then in February 2019, Stamford Police charged him with two counts of second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, interfering, criminal violation of a restraining order and failure to comply with a fingerprint request.
