Police are investigating a 50-year-old West Avalon Drive woman’s report that more than $2,000 in jewelry—and a $300 vacuum cleaner—went missing from her home some time last Tuesday.
The woman had left her home at 8:30 a.m. and when she returned home at 7:30 p.m. found a back door wide open, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department. She thought at first that the wind had blown it open, but soon noticed her drawers were out as if they’d been rummaged through, according to a police report.
Missing items included: Citizen gold watch ($500), Bissel vacuum ($300), two gold rings at ($200 apiece), gold necklace with a drop pendant ($200) 30 pieces of assorted earrings and necklaces ($1,000).
It is believed that the perpetrator gained entry by a window near the front of the unit. A neighbor reported seeing a dark-complexioned in a dark SUV who made a quick U-Turn and left when spotted, police said.
West Avalon Drive is a housing complex located off of Lakeview Avenue, opposite the bottom of the cemetery.
