New Canaan Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident which sent a 24-year-old Florida man to the hospital early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:19 A.M. officers responded to New Norwalk Road and Locust Avenue where police say a pedestrian was crossing New Norwalk Road when a car traveling north on New Norwalk Road struck the individual. The car did not stop after hitting the pedestrian who police say was not in a crosswalk and, according to witnesses, continued traveling north on New Norwalk Road.

The evading vehicle was described by witnesses as a red SUV, possibly a Jeep, with a spare tire on the back. The rear license plate on the car may have been a New York registration plate, police added.

The pedestrian suffered injuries to his head and was transported to Norwalk Hospital by New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps with non-life threatening injuries.
