Police on Wednesday morning arrested a 62-year-old Norwalk man by warrant on a felony larceny charge in connection with missing funds from a New Canaan-based service organization.
On the morning of April 5, New Canaan Police received a complaint regarding funds missing from the bank account of the Masonic Lodge, located at Church and Main Streets, according to a press bulletin.
The department’s Investigative Section found that between 2012 and 2016, Joseph M. McBride—then-treasurer of the lodge—had used a debit card on the organization’s bank account without authorization, according to a police report.
In all, he made more than $54,000 in purchases for personal use through four years as treasurer, the report said.
Police charged him with first-degree larceny, a Class B felony that may be brought when the accused is said to have stolen property worth $20,000 or more.
He was held on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear Wednesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
