Police last weekend arrested a 31-year-old Norwalk man for striking a Connecticut State Police vehicle while driving drunk the wrong way through a construction zone in New Canaan.
At about 10:55 p.m. on Nov. 4, police were dispatched to the area of Old Stamford Road at Exit 36 on a report of the crash, officials said.
After striking the patrol vehicle, the Norwalk man drove off the roadway and into a ditch, according to a police report.
On speaking to the motorist, police smelled both marijuana and alcohol, the report said.
He failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence.
A search of the vehicle turned up less than .5 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the report said. Police cited him for infractions related to the pot.
A blood-alcohol content test showed a level of .217, police said, more than 2.5 times the legal limit.
He additionally was cited for failure to drive right and unsafe backing.
Police released the man on $250 bond and scheduled him to appear Nov. 16 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
