Two New Canaan Police officers recently saved the life of a person who had fallen unconscious after having difficulty breathing, officials said.
Within two minutes of being dispatched, Sgt. Aaron LaTourette and Officer Matthew Blank arrived on scene and determined that the individual had no pulse, according to a press release by Chief Leon Krolikowski.
They used a defibrillator to administer a shock and performed lifesaving care including CPR, the chief said in the release. The patient would regain his or her pulse and received advanced care from New Canaan Emergency Medical Services, a volunteer agency that transported the individual to Norwalk Hospital, the release said.
Police withheld details including the the patient’s identity and time and location of the medical call.
“We are proud of how these officers embody our mission, which is ‘To protect and serve the community with courage, professionalism, and integrity,’ ” Krolikowski said. “Their compassion is to be celebrated. As we work together to handle hundreds of medical calls and medical emergencies we give special thanks to Norwalk Hospital and [New Canaan Emergency Medical Services] for being such critical partners. There is no greater reward than saving a life.”
Proud of our EMT’s and our POLICE.
