Arrests Downtown: Theft from Main Street Shop, Fighting behind Elm Street Restaurant

A 41-year-old Norwalk woman faces a misdemeanor larceny charge after she was caught stealing three sweaters from a women’s clothing and accessory shop on Main Street.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Aug. 27, police said, the woman put into her bag two cashmere sweaters valued at $300 apiece and a third, $30 sweater, and left without paying, video surveillance showed.

The woman was known to a worker at the shop and when police contacted her, she confessed to making a bad decision. She was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released after promising to appear Sept. 11 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

A River Street couple face misdemeanor charges after a late-night argument downtown turned physical.

At about 1:24 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to the rear of an Elm Street restaurant where they found a woman with eyes swollen and what appeared to be bruising, a police report said. The woman, 27, told police that her boyfriend had struck her and thrown her down, and that when she started kicking him he placed a beer keg on her leg as a buffer between them, the report said.

Both had been drinking and were charged with disorderly conduct. The boy friend, 40, additionally was charged with third-degree assault.

They were released after promising to appear later Tuesday morning in state Superior Court in Stamford.
