Join New Canaan Library in welcoming artist and lecturer Cliff Tisdell for a discussion on Picasso in occupied Paris. The event takes place on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the evening. During the Nazi occupation of Paris, Picasso and other artists not only survived, they thrived. Cliff Tisdell will discuss how Picasso, a known anti-fascist and labeled a “degenerate artist”, managed to produce art and remain in France during World War II. This lecture will examine Picasso’s work from this period and inspect how he made his own statements against fascism with art, while under house arrest.
Cliff Tisdell’s work has appeared in universities and galleries around the United States. Most recently, his work has been shown at the VanDerPlas Gallery in NYC and the George Segal Gallery where he was a guest artist and lecturer.
