Police on Monday afternoon arrested a 21-year-old Norwalk man by warrant in connection with a car crash on Route 123 in May.

At about 7:24 p.m. on May 25, officers were dispatched to Smith Ridge and Country Club Roads on a report of a four-vehicle crash with injuries, police said.

There, officers found the then-20-year-old Norwalk man and smelled alcohol on his breath, according to a police report. The man told investigators he hadn’t been driving, the report said.

Following an investigation, police determined that he had been driving and that he’d run a stop sign that caused the crash, it said.

Police also found that he’d been drinking alcohol before the crash, was driving with a suspended license and had provided EMS and hospital staff with a different name than he’d given investigators at the scene, the report said.

New Canaan Police obtained a signed arrest warrant on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than .02 while less than 21 years old, reckless driving and interfering.

He was released on $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 3 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
