New Canaan FC Girls U11 Red Team Beats Trumbull
The New Canaan FC U11 Girls Red Team defeated the Trumbull United Heat on Sunday amid cold temperatures and autumn snow flurries. As the New Canaan offense got off to a cold start in the first half, the tough defensive play that has been the Red Team’s signature all season took center stage. The defense of Nola Kammerer and Kate Caione, with Ava Gizzie in the goal thwarted all of Trumbull’s attempts to score and the half ended in a 0-0 tie. The scoring in the second half began as Caroline Underwood weaved her way past the Trumbull defense and buried a shot in the net after receiving a lead pass from Gizzie. With the score now 1-0, Katharine Byrne was fouled just outside the box drawing a free kick.
