2013 NCHS Grad Alex Sigg Headed to Ohio Wesleyan

Alex Sigg, a 2013 New Canaan High School graduate and varsity football player here under Lou Marinelli, will head to Ohio Wesleyan University to study and play football, his family said. The 6’4”, 275- to 280-pound offensive lineman joins the Battling Bishops under head coach Tom Watts after a middle-of-the-pack finish in Division III’s North Coast Athletic Conference. Asked by NewCanaanite.com to talk about how his experience as a football player here in New Canaan helped create a foundation for him, Alex said: “Man, I have been through a lot with those guys they taught me everything, they’re the reason why I am the person [I am] today. I was taught to never give up, to work harder than anybody else, and I did. Once I got more of a leadership role on the field, I started to get more looks than I did my senior year.

Lucky #13: New Canaan’s Tim Condon to Play at Susquehanna

NewCanaanite.com reported back in February that 12 NCHS seniors were continuing their football careers at the collegiate level. Add #13 to the mix. Rams defensive lineman Tim Condon confirmed that he will be playing at Susquehanna University next season. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to play at the next level,” Condon told NewCanaanite.com. “I owe a great deal of thanks to Coach Marinelli and all of the New Canaan coaches for preparing me.”

New Canaan’s Zach Allen Commits to Northwestern

New Canaan Rams football star Zach Allen has committed to Northwestern University, the standout athlete confirmed with NewCanaanite.com. Allen, who will captain the Rams in his senior year, told NewCanaanite.com that the “balance of academics and football” was the main factor in his choosing the prestigious Evanston, IL-based school. The 6’6″, 243-lb. DE/LB, had a monster junior season for the FCIAC and Class L State champs with 81 tackles and a team-high 11.5 sacks. Allen’s 19.5 career sacks have him currently tied with Connor Buck for the most in NCHS history.

Honoring a New Canaan Teacher: A Tribute to Mr. Parry

Tim Parry, 44, began to see his father differently—through the eyes of his schoolmates—after arriving at New Canaan High School as a freshman in the late-1980s. By then his dad, Ray Parry, was approaching 30 years teaching science at the high school, including stints as an assistant football coach and equipment manager there. “I came to see a whole different world,” Tim recalled on a recent afternoon. “A world of people that he had done things for. I started to hear, ‘Your dad meant this and that to me,’ ‘I wouldn’t have got into college if not for your dad,’ ‘He pulled me aside and gave me something to read and it changed my life.’ ”

The elder Parry will turn 85 on April 12 and Tim has a special plan to mark the day: Gather videos from former students and colleagues telling his dad what he’s meant to them, and combine the clips in a digital tribute reel (instructions on how to participate can be found at end of this article).
