A Time To Kill is the first of John Grisham’s iconic legal dramas to be adapted for the theatre, running on Broadway for 13 months through November 17, 2013.   Soon after the Broadway run finished, The Town Players of New Canaan secured the rights to present the play’s first regional theatre production, and its Connecticut premiere.

Part courtroom drama and part suspense thriller, A Time To Kill is the incendiary story of a small Southern community thrust into the national spotlight by an unspeakable crime.

A ten-year-old black girl is raped and nearly hanged by two drugged-up white racists.  The girl’s outraged father executes the rapists with an assault rifle in public view, without hesitation or regret.

As burning crosses and the crack of sniper fire spread through the streets, the nation sits spellbound as young defense attorney Jake Brigance struggles to save his client’s life, and his own.

The play is packed with action, compelling characters, inventive courtroom tactics, and a thought-provoking moral dilemma: When, if ever, is it a time to kill?
