The Eleventh Annual Preservation Awards will be presented by the New Canaan Preservation Alliance at a Ceremonial Reception on Sunday June 3rd at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park. Selected by a jury of board members of the Alliance, the winners will be presented certificates of honor. To be eligible for an Award, the property is viewed mainly from the street, as well-preserved buildings are considered a “Gift” to the community, appreciated by all who value New Canaan’s heritage. There are four categories of winners, the Committee’s Award for Rehabilitation, the Trustees’ Award for Restoration, The Preservation Leadership Award and the President’s Award for Preservation.
Beginning at 4:00 PM, the public will be welcomed to a reception in celebration of NCPA’s eleventh Annual Awards. Virginia Adams, Senior Architectural Historian from Public Archeology Laboratory, Inc. will give a brief presentation on their research and preparation of the nomination of the Waveny Estate, to the National Register of Historic Places, highlighting various aspects of the significance of the property.
This year, there are six awards ranging from an 1816 Federal Home to a 1950s Mid-Century Modern house, and will include an award to the Town of New Canaan for the restoration of the roof at Waveny House. A seventh award, for preservation, will be presented to Richard Bergmann for his career-long dedication to preservation.
