Join author William Middleton for a fascinating presentation on the de Menils, celebrated collectors who became one of the greatest cultural forces of the twentieth century through groundbreaking exhibitions, artistic scholarship, establishing institutions, and work with civil rights. Middleton’s book, Double Vision, chronicles how the couple created an oasis of culture in their Philip Johnson-designed house in Houston, hosting iconic individuals and friends from Marlene Dietrich and René Magritte to Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns. They built the Menil Collection, the Rothko Chapel, the Byzantine Fresco Chapel, the Cy Twombly Gallery, and underwrote the Contemporary Arts Museum. With unprecedented access to family archives, Middleton has written a sweeping biography of this powerful and unique couple.
