Thomas Throop, a nationally recognized furniture designer and maker, is featuring custom designed furniture on sale in his studio located at 26 Grove St. in New Canaan, on Father’s Day, June 19th from 12 to 4 p.m.

A native of New Canaan, Throop has shown his work in several galleries and numerous exhibitions around the United States, including Architectural Digest Design Show, the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Show. He was classically trained in England under John Makepeace, one of that nation’s foremost contemporary furniture makers, and has operated his business, Black Creek Designs, since his return to the United States in 1992. Throop has built a considerable reputation, and his pieces are now included in several important public and private collections, including many homes in New Canaan, Darien, Rowayton, Greenwich and abroad.

The Open Studio Sale will feature numerous pieces and several works in progress including an award winning standing cabinet, an award winning music stand, coffee tables, foyer benches, and console tables. All are one-of-a-kind, and feature a variety of stunning hardwoods, including such exotic varieties as bubinga from West Africa, Highly figured walnut from California, and imbuya from Brazil.
